LOGO DESIGN: More Than a Flame
What does a candle do for you? Sure, they’re pretty, and make the house smell great, but have you ever noticed the warm, cozy and calming feeling that they emit just by lighting that wick? You know what else makes you feel good? Cookies! Young entrepreneur, Terrell Fuller, had the brilliant idea to put these 2 things together along with positive affirmations and inspirations to create More Than a Flame.
Terrell, having a deep desire to help others and inspired by his mother’s teachings of selfless service, he realized he didn’t have to wait to make a difference. So at 16 years old, he founded More Than A Flame. His aim is to go beyond being a candle and cookie shop, striving to genuinely impact lives through the power of aromatherapy.
Having this fantastic idea of a business down, now he needed a logo! That is where I came in. We needed to somehow combine a candle and cookies together without making the design too cutesy. It needed to be simple, appealing and as impactful as the brand.
As with any logo or layout design, I like to begin by sketching out my ideas first. The physical action of drawing helps unlock ideas during the brainstorming process.

From here, I created these ideas in Illustrator, trying to incorporate the candle with cookies in a few different ways. The bottom right image is the original logo that we were updating. Which is your favorite?

From these, I chose the ones that I thought were strongest to show the client. The bottom left was the winner. With a few edits the bottom center logo is the final design. The candle is a knockout which allows the color of the application to show through. Terrell uses the logo for social media, stickers, labels for the products and his Thank You + Business Cards.
