LOGO DESIGN: Green Dog

Designing the perfect logo requires quite a bit of brainstorming. Once you start down a train of thought, you might find yourself going a completely different direction!

My client, The Carolina Pet Company, is developing a new brand identity that requires a new logo. Their mission is to create quality, eco-conscious pet products - including beds, toys and more! They decided on the name GREEN DOG and wanted a logo that captured the eco-conscious concept along with a green dog.

I began the brainstorming process. Using the color green, a dog and a leaf to denote “eco-friendly”, I went to work to incorporate these design elements together. Brainstorming is important in the logo process. You find yourself starting with one idea, and suddenly you have about a hundred. They might have slight variances, but you might find that those variances inspire you in a direction that you weren't thinking before.

After submitting my favorites of these ideas, the client decided that they wanted to go a different direction. They wanted to have something that was more sophisticated. So, they sent to me a logo they really liked for inspiration. Something more illustrated and using their dog as the model 🦮.

With this new direction, I got to work illustrating their new logo. I printed out the photo of the dog and got to tracing and sketching. This was then scanned into Illustrator and I set to work modeling the sketch to mock the green face logo image sent to me.

From this sketch, I went into brainstorming the different ways we could incorporate the leaves so they made sense and how to fit in the Green Dog text.

Sadly in the end, the client decided to go another route with this logo. Which happens in our industry. I still really like what I created and am proud to show it off to you all. Here are some mock ups I created of the different designs that I used in my logo presentation. Enjoy!
